The Marks/Names dialog box lets you position registration marks, color names and other
plate information items which you want to appear on color separations produced with the
current document. Your printers use these items to ensure accurate alignment of the colors
being printed and to check for proper color and grey balance.
You can move any of the items by dragging it to the required location. As you click on an
item its name appears under 'Selected Item', and as you drag the item the Across and Down
read-outs show positive or negative distances from the top left-hand corner of the current
page area. Units are as set in the General Preferences dialog box.
The current print area appears as a dotted line outside the page size rectangle. (If page
size and print area are the same, you'll see a single solid line instead.)
To allow plate information items to be printed on the separations, the print area should
be at least 1 inch deeper and wider than the page size. Plate information items placed
outside the print area of your printer will not appear on the printed separations.
Available plate information items are:
-
Registration marks, eight per page, which print on all separations.
-
Star targets, four per page, which print on all separations.
-
Color line name, which appears individually on each separation. A typical color line name
might appears as: Process Black / Testpiece / Page 1 / 53 lpi 45° / 17/9/91 / 4:38PM
-
Grey-level calibration bar, which appears on the black separation only.
80% CMYK strip and 100% CMYK strip, elements of which appear individually on the cyan,
magenta and yellow separations, to form a continuous strip on the printed result.
The above items will appear on screen if you check Color Names & Bars in the Show
section of the General Preferences dialog box and check Color Separation in the Printer
Setup dialog box.
