Process Color Separation Specs Dialog Box

The Process Color Separation Specs dialog box lets you alter printer and halftone options for the current imagesetter. The displayed and available options are supplied by the current MPD. (RSG installs by default four generic MPD's which should match most printer types. You should choose the one that matches the type of your printer in the Printer Specifications dialog box. If you do not have an MPD which provides the required combination of imagesetter and resolution, or which provides the GCR/UCR settings you need, contact Diwan Software for information on how to produce new MPDs.)
The halftone settings in this dial
og box override any other halftone settings for objects and images (via the Pen Screen, Fill Screen and Halftone Screen dialog boxes) which are to be process color separated. You can set other halftone options for objects and images which are to be separated as spot colors - see Halftone Options For Individual Objects later in this section.

  • Printer shows the current imagesetter, as selected in the Printer Specifications dialog box.

  • Screen lets you set the resolution of the imaging device from a range of available options.

  • Choosing a resolution affects the halftone options available in the Auto LPI pop-up - see below. Default setting is the lowest resolution. Units are DPI (dots per inch).

  • Shape lets you set the dot shape for halftone screens: Dot (the default), Ellipse or Line. Your printers will be able to advise which to use for a particular job. When process color separation is on, this setting overrides any options set for individual process-color objects set in their Pen Screen and Fill Screen dialog boxes.

  • Auto LPI lets you set halftone screen rulings and angles which are optimized to reduce moiré patterns with the current imagesetter. As you select a setting in the pop-up, the CMYK screen rulings and angles change automatically to the optimized values. When process color separation is on, the Auto LPI setting overrides any options set for individual process-color objects set in their Pen Screen and Fill Screen dialog boxes.

  • Stock lets you choose the paper type: Coated, Uncoated or Newsprint. This gives you a reference to the paper type used during calibration of the printer setting used by the MPD.

  • No Undercolor for Pure Black lets you produce separations with no C, M or Y dots under areas of 100% black. Use this only where the pages to be separated have areas of pure black and white.
