To Position or Remove Plate Information Items

You can print plate information items which printers need to help them align separations before printing and to check results while the print job is running.

  1. Choose Preferences/Printing from the Document menu. Make sure Color Separations is checked.

  2. Click Marks/Names. The Marks/Names dialog box is displayed.

NOTE: If the print area is too small to allow room for the plate information items, go to the Printer Setup dialog box and choose a larger paper size. Specify a paper size that is at least one-half inch wider and deeper than your document's page size. Then return to Preferences/Printing from the Document menu again and continue.

To re-position an item, drag it where needed. The Across and Down readouts show the position of the item from the top left corner of the page area, so negative numbers mean "above" or "to the left of" the page area. Units are as set in the General Preferences dialog box.
To remove an item so that it doesn't appear on the separations, simply move it outside the print area.

  1. Click OK to return to the Printing Preferences dialog box.

To check positioning of plate information items, in case of conflict with elements in your page layout, choose Preferences/General from the Document menu, check Show Register Marks and Show Color Names, and click OK.

Your document will now display the plate information items on the screen. To turn off the display, uncheck the relevant boxes in the Preferences/General dialog box.
To create your own registration marks, use the technique described in
