You can specify a choke or a spread in increments of either .001 points or .001 ems.

1. Select the text you want to trap with the I-beam tool.

2. Choose Trapping from the Format menu. A dialog box appears.

3. Choose Choke or Spread and choose to work in points or ems. Trapping set in ems will automatically scale when you change the size of the text.

4. Type in the amount. The default value is 0.0 points-no trapping.

5. Click OK.

The setting has no effect on the screen display. The setting only effects printing if you are printing color separations, and the text whose trap value you have set overlaps another object of a different color, and the text whose trap you have set is designated to knockout.
