To Insert or Remove Column Breaks in a Chain

You can keep text from readjusting in one or more columns in a chain by inserting column breaks. For example, if the first line of a paragraph is the last line in a text block (column or page), you can force that line to the next column or page to avoid an awkward break.

  1. Select an insertion point where you want to insert the column break.

  2. Choose Insert Column Break from the Text menu. Any text after the insertion point flows into the next text block in the chain.

To remove one or more column breaks, select the text in one or more text blocks, and choose Remove Column Break(s) from the Text menu. A return character replaces each column break and the text readjusts in the chain of blocks.
To insert or remove a column break quickly, type Command-Shift- Option-X
