You can count the number of words and characters in either a selection range of text, the current text block, the current text chain, or the entire document.

1. Select the text you want to count. To count the words and characters in a text block or chain, select an insertion point anywhere in the text block or chain.

2. Choose Character/Word Count from the Utilities menu.

3. Select either Character Count or Word Count.

4. Select either Range, Block, Chain or Document.

5. Click Count. To result of the count is displayed. Repeat steps 3, 4 & 5 as is necessary.

6. Click Done when you are finished. You do not have to be editing text with the I-beam tool to count characters and words in the entire document.
