You can find text in a selection, block, chain of blocks or throughout a document. You can
also find text by stylesheet as well as by font, style, size, or combination of these. The
search begins after the current insertion point.
-
Select an insertion point where
you want to begin the search.
-
Choose Find from the Text menu.
-
To search for particular text,
type the text or paste it from the clipboard. You can type up to 255 characters in the
Find What box. Text pasted from the clipboard is not limited in length, but does not
retain its formatting. You can use a wildcard character (?) to find text. RSG searches for
all the typed characters plus any other character in place of the wildcard character. For
example, "?ack" and finds "lack," "back," "tack,"
and so on. You can also search for special characters such as tabs, Returns and space
characters of particular widths. For full details of all the special characters that can
be searched for, see Find under
Text Menu in Reference.
To find only a whole word, as opposed to part of a word, select Look For Whole Word.
To match uppercase and lowercase characters, type the characters exactly and select Match
Upper/Lowercase.
-
To search for text by stylesheet
or by format leave Find What blank. Either choose a stylesheet from the Stylesheet pop-up,
or check Use Format and click the button. With Use Format, check the required formats in
the Format to Find dialog box. If you want to look for text with a specific font, size, or
type style, select Use Format and click the button. In the Format To Find dialog box,
select the formats that you want the text you find to have.
-
Specify where to search by
clicking Selection, Block or Chain.
-
Click Start Search.
-
Click Find Next to go to the next
occurrence.
To quickly find the next
occurrence of the last text you searched for, choose Find Next from the Text menu.
To quickly find the next occurrence of a selection of text, select the text you want to
find, and choose Find Selection from the Text menu. RSG finds the text without regard to
its format |
